Rail workers to lobby Government over job cuts

Railway workers are to lobby the Government as part of a campaign to halt maintenance job cuts, on the third anniversary of the Grayrigg derailment in Cumbria, which resulted in one person dying and more than 60 passengers being injured.

The RMT says that the reduction in the number of maintenance workers increases the probability of such an accident happening again.

Members of the Rail Maritime and Transport union will hand in a letter to the Transport Department urging Transport Secretary Lord Adonis to stop Network Rail cutting maintenance jobs.
